About the Book

Sam Tanner, one of Texas' premier story-tellers, has captured what it was like to grow up in rural Texas, in a large family that taught love and family values. "Tall Tales for Young Listeners" is a compilation of stories, passed down from generation to generation, that have built a bond and legacy between parents and children. This book has become the tool for spreading these stories beyond the Tanner Family, to other generations of young listeners whose lives will be touched by these "Tall Tales."
About the Author: ABOUT THE AUTHOR (SAM TANNER, TEXAS STORYTELLER) Sam Tanner of Forney, Texas has been a popular storyteller throughout his careers as a farmer, truck driver, railroad fireman, high school athletic director, head football coach, insurance broker and now as a storyteller. Sam's football talents as a guard and linebacker brought him a college education. After playing in the Texas High School All-Star game in 1954, he attended Paris Junior College and was named to the 1956 Junior College All-American team. As a junior, he transferred to Trinity University in San Antonio, where he continued playing football and received a B.S. degree in 1958. Sam is married to retired elementary teacher, Mimi. They have four grown children and nine grandchildren. On an icy, frozen night when the family lived in Malakoff, Texas, Sam actually delivered the Tanner's third child. With his three brothers and six sisters, Sam had grown up listening to stories told to them by their father and grandfather. Five of those stories comprise this collection of tall tales. A sixth story, "My First Pony," tells how even after a child's dream is shattered, he or she can achieve a wonderful life. The last story is about Sam and two of his brothers. Sam, who will be eighty on his next birthday, still works full time. He is a door greeter at a Wal-Mart in Seagoville, Texas.
