About the Book

Some of the best ideas come through in conversations. Melissa Iteld-Jurin and Frank MacKay engage in riveting dialogue every week during the Melissa Iteld-Jurin Radio Show. Radio is an incredible medium for connecting with audiences throughout the nation and the world. Their 2016 series on education was so good, that it was worthy to reproduce in another medium - print. You gain a whole new perspective when you read these interviews. This is not your traditional book on education. This is a conversation in print designed to give educators, home schooling parents and others fresh ideas on important topics in education. Enjoy the journey, engage with these words of wisdom and tune into the Melissa Iteld-Jurin Show each week on Blog Talk Radio and Soundcloud. Melissa is a progressive educator who emphasizes with her students the importance of experience, social responsibility and creativity in all facets of learning. She is innovative and believes that children grow intellectually though their interactions with caring adults and teachers. Frank MacKay, Melissa's co-host, is a nationally syndicated radio talk show host and publisher of Talk Nation Live magazine.
About the Author: Melissa Iteld-Jurin is fast becoming a celebrity on the 'talk' radio circuit where she co-hosts a weekly segment on Society, Culture and Class in America with nationally syndicated talk show host Frank MacKay. She's quick and clever, and with her knowledge of culture, art and history, she is offering listeners nationwide a glimpse into the complex life and intellect of a Jewish woman from Long Island's famous Gold Coast. Specifically, Great Neck Village, which has a distinct history as a home for actors, artists and writers. F. Scott Fitzgerald rented a house in the area in the 1920's, and immortalized the Gold Coast in ''The Great Gatsby.'' Melissa's Jewish background plays a large role in her life, and in many of the anecdotes that she shares with her audience. Melissa can convey a message in a way that touches people, emotionally, intellectually and with a dose of lighthearted humor. These characteristics suit her well as both an educator and on-air with her listeners. She has spent a lifetime educating herself and others. She received her B.A. in History from Barnard College and a Master's Degree in History and Education from the Teachers College at Columbia University. As if that weren't impressive enough, she is currently pursuing a third Master's Degree in Special Education from Drexel University. Special education is a field that is very close to her heart. She freely shares stories about her son, Larry, who is autistic, and hopes to use her platform on-air and through social media to bring awareness to issues regarding children with special needs. When she is not caring for her son Larry and tending to his needs, she also finds time to volunteer as a mentor in the Barnard College alumna mentorship program. In addition to her family, she is also passionate about ballet and continuously engages in dance, which has been a lifelong pursuit. Listeners can catch her show on Blog Talk Radio, iTunes, and on Soundcloud.
