Living in the hood gives you an advantage because you see, hear, and experience things that you could not otherwise perceive or observe anywhere else within the city limits. Although few avoid police contact, it is still a training ground that develops the strongest minds. It develops the best actors and the best actresses. Scientific minds also came out of the hood . . . doctors from all fields of study have come out of the hood. If you research them and emulate their talents and skills, you will become just as great. Be proud to live in the hood because there is no better place (if you are receptive) that could totally shape you into a well-rounded human being.
This book (Hood Talk: Talking in the Hood) will answer some, if not all, of the questions that you have been trying to answer for years regarding the enclosed subjects. These matters have been affecting our community to the point that disrespectfulness, brutalization, imprisonment, and death have been the outcome. We must correct these and all other issues that are causing us to lose sight of our individual, family, and societal values. I hope and I pray that you decide to not only question these issues but to do something about them as well. We must stand up and talk about what must be done to change and improve the conditions of our community. So let us stand and fight until we unite as one people . . . one nation pursuing truth, justice, and equality.
