But one thing is sure - you don't want to be in her yard at ten o'clock on Halloween!
About the Author: Drienie Hattingh is a native of South Africa. She and her husband, Johan, and children, Eugene, Brenda and Yolandi, immigrated to America 30 years ago. Drienie has been a columnist for 20 years and have true stories published in Christmas Anthologies, such as Christmas Miracles and The Spirit of Christmas, and also stories in Chicken Soup for the Soul. Her historical novel, FOREVER FRIENDS was published in 2015. She also published a novella, A Glass Slipper for Christmas. Drienie loves history in all its forms. She has had a fascination with Utah's history and legends, ever since she moved from Minnesota to Eden, fourteen years ago. No wonder she now lives right in the thick of it, on Historic 25th Street, where she is surrounded by historical buildings, such as Union Station, and Ben Lomand Hotel, and all the beautiful buildings that had survived demolition in the last hundred years or so. After Drienie compiled and published the first three books in the TALES Series, she just 'had to' focus on the Ogden Canyon, and the Ogden Valley. The Ogden Canyon, she says, has been 'haunting' her... begging to be the subject of her next book. While living in Eden, and driving up and down the winding road, she could feel the history radiating from the gray cliffs, hugging the canyon. Often her eyes focused, in awe, on the sediment left by an ancient river that had carved the canyon. And sometimes she left the road, and crossed one of the many bridges in the canyon, following it up into side canyons, marveling at the remnants of long-gone buildings and historical structures that are still there today. "Just think what all those early settlers had to overcome?! They found a way through the inhabitable Ogden Canyon, and eventually settled the Ogden Valley. There they cleared rough land, built cabins and started farming. And then the waters came, and the beautiful Pineview Reservoir!" All of this inspired Drienie to accumulate stories, through local authors, about the Ogden Canyon and its Valley above. The result is, Tales from Ogden Canyon and beyond". Drienie says, "This is going to be the best book in the Series!" But, she's been known to say this with every new book in the Tales Series. She is thankful for the talented authors who contributed their stories and marvels at the fact that they have such a varied backgrounds-teachers, authors, homemakers, artists, an accountant, editor, journalist, handyman, musician, therapist, columnist and a realtor.
