About the Book

Humanity has come a long way from being huddled in a cave. But now what? After all the work of generation after generation, we now seem poised to throw it all away. I really hope we don't. Our society seems to be in a giant hurry when what we really need is to slow down and carefully consider how to proceed while being respectful of other cultures and peoples. Rather than rushing to decisions with people of different backgrounds and contexts, we need first to reach common ground. The way to that is to open up about our own hopes and fears for humankind. In these inter-connected essays, I describe experiences that led to my own values and beliefs. I offer suggestions for how we might proceed together. These essays address such contemporary topics as terrorism, politics, civility, racism, misogyny, economic systems, health care and child rearing.
