About the Book

Take Her to the River is the third book in the sassy Macey Malloy Mysteries. Macey and her crime-solving cat Wikket tackle mysteries with a chick-lit twist. It all began with the Kindle Scout winner Take the Body and Run, a "goofy thriller" filled with suspenseful-and funny-twists and turns.

Macey Malloy has hit rock bottom.

Never a serious contender for Miss Congeniality, Macey is persona non grata on campus. Years ago, she assumed her dead friend's identity. Her mask was ripped off, exposing her as the daughter of a notorious cult leader. Macey was tried in the court of viral social media for her employee's murder and found guilty, even though the real killer is in custody. Her boss, Tanna, delivers an ultimatum: she will fire Macey from her job as the Kentucky university's employee relations director if she investigates any more crimes and rains bad press on the school.

Macey finds that rock bottom was just a sightseeing jaunt on her trip to the depths of despair.

When Macey confronts Kayla, a delusional nurse with dark secrets, she's met with an eerie rendition of "Take Me to the River." Soon after, Kayla is murdered, and Macey finds the murder weapon slipped into her own coat pocket. Her best friend, Leila, hears about Kayla's strange song, collapses, and then vanishes-leaving behind only the haunting tune and a dead nurse.

While she investigates the murder, searches for Leila, and hangs onto her job by her fingertips, Macey has even more problems. Harlan is the compelling and dangerous man from her past and a ruthless leader in her father's cult. He launches a sensual battle on the defenses to her heart, but he's also keeping an explosive secret from her. At the same time, the handsome, infamous womanizer Jeremy wants Macey as badly as he'd want the grand prize in a scavenger hunt. He'll wield any weapon in his quest to win her, including Harlan's devastating secret.

With time running out, Macey and her crime-solving cat Wikket find themselves outmatched and up against a desperate killer.

Macey teams up with an oddball group, including Brett, the death doctor who wields his fart machine like a lethal weapon; Dr. Paine, aka Dr. PIA to his students and Macey's archenemy; Joris, who's addicted to paper and uses a weaponized typewriter against Macey, who's waging her own war on paper; and others. Macey is not sure if they're helping or hindering her, but they're her only hope.

Will Macey, Wikket, and her eccentric crew survive the path to uncovering the truth? Or will they find themselves outwitted by a ruthless killer in the end?

SPECIAL BONUS: The novella, Runnin' with the Devil Cat, is included free at the end of the book. Runnin' with the Devil Cat takes place right after Take Her to the River, the third book in the series. Macey Malloy reluctantly helps Greta, who has taken up a new hobby . . . ghost hunting. After finding more than ectoplasm while chasing after spirits, Greta is terrified she'll be accused of a brutal murder. She knows who she's gonna call-Macey and her crime-busting cat, Wikket.
