En SÍMBOLO, CREATIVIDAD Y METÁFORA, Ricardo Carretero Gramage (Menorca, 1957), médico psiquiatra, psicoterapeuta junguiano formado en Italia y analista didacta miembro de la IAAP, indaga en las "tres operaciones básicas" que intervienen tanto a nivel intrapsíquico como interpsíquico durante el encuentro analista-paciente. Ellas son las que nutren la parte más visible y a su vez más inaprensible del lenguaje psíquico.Después de haber tratado en el libro anterior (Psicoterapia junguiana y posjunguiana. Perspectivas de la psicoterapia dialógica) distintos planteamientos fundamentales para la instauración de la psicoterapia, en este nuevo libro Carretero dirige su atención al lenguaje psíquico, a sus distintos niveles y capacidades. ¿Cuál es la lengua que habla la psique a cada instante? ¿Cuál es la lengua propia de la psicoterapia? ¿Cuál es la que conviene? Preguntas imposibles de responder de forma concluyente, pero que abren un interrogante sobre la comprensión y uso de los materiales psíquicos. La psique es compleja, usa distintas lenguas y lenguajes, pero ninguna es reducible ni interpretable de una sola manera. De ahí la potencialidad de la metáfora, del uso del lenguaje metafórico, que extrae ulterioridad de sentido a materiales que de otra forma aparecerían como meros síntomas. De ahí la capacidad inextinguiblemente hermenéutica del lenguaje simbólico, que tensa el sentido hacia delante y a su vez compone y recompone los materiales psíquicos en una acción sin fin. De ahí también la potencialidad del lenguaje creativo, que se erige desde el vacío y el silencio, para asomarse por primera vez a la vida psíquica. Carretero defiende la vigencia de estos lenguajes y advierte del error y peligro de una interpretación literal de los materiales psíquicos. El recurso a la continua fecundación del lenguaje que se cruza durante la psicoterapia, hace que la psicología deba salir de su refugio y asomarse a lo que tienen que ofrecer otros saberes, otras formas de la Cultura de fijar y ofrecer materiales que, también, proceden de la psique, hablan de ella y para ella.En Diálogo soñado con María Zambrano, Carretero reafirma su compromiso profesional con las diversas fuentes de la Cultura, en especial con aquellas que, aun no perteneciendo en sentido estricto al ámbito de la psicología, despliegan todo un crisol de humanidad capaz también de activar y dar razón de aquellos expedientes simbólicos, creativos y metafóricos que se dan cita durante la psicoterapia junguiana, sin las cuales esta es impensable.
