The king has thrice conveyed orders of favor to him, indicating that he is the one proper leader of the host. Li witnesses this with admiration and awe.

As the conflict rises, Li sees how his comrades must maintain their firm correctness and avoid error. They must adhere to the rules of righteous warfare and conduct themselves properly, especially at the outset.
