About the Book

Johnnie C. Godwin has written a rich book to help readers find how to go about living powerful lives through alignments in relationship with others. In fact, the title of the book is "Syzygy: Living a Powerfully Aligned Life." Though "syzygy" came from Greek, it is an English word that simply means yoked together or aligned together. It complements another Greek word that became English: namely, the word "synergy," which means work together. This book tells in simple language how to make quantum leaps in living an empowered life. Wherever in life there is dysfunction, this book explains practical steps to make relationships functional. It's like lubricating your life with WD-40 to live smoothly and helpfully in all life's arenas.
About the Author: Johnnie C. Godwin was born in Midland, Texas in 1937. He lived all his life there until he graduated from high school. After that, Johnnie majored in Greek at Baylor University in Waco, Texas and went on to get graduate degrees. He married Phyllis (Murphy) Godwin in 1956. Most interestingly, Johnnie began a lifelong love of studying words when he began selling newspapers on the streets at age 7. And that love eventually led him to become an author, an editor, a managing editor, and an officer in a publishing company. In what the author calls his amazing maze of life's journey, he has now been a professional writer for over 50 years. He's written more than a million published words in retirement. But over all his career, he has written eight books, edited beaucoup of them, written a weekly newspaper column titled "Words & Things" for nine years, and continues actively writing under the rubric "From Both Sides of the Pulpit" for a magazine in Tennessee. He and Phyllis had three sons, have eight grown grandchildren, and seven great-grands. Johnnie sometimes gets referred to as "Granddaddy Dictionary." He's coauthored a student Bible dictionary that now has sold almost one million copies. Other writings have been in areas of communication and how to retire without retreating. Besides his own writing, editing, managing, and publishing, Johnnie has taught writings as an adjunct profession in various universities and seminaries. He has led publishers to exhibit their books internationally: in Moscow, Beijing, Frankfurt, and elsewhere. But Johnnie's life is not a sedentary one that simply pores over words and removes the dust. He owns 56 acres of land, where h e has cut his own firewood and split it for 35 years. He's played tennis, racquetball, and other sports most of his life. Besides almost not having an unpublished thought, he also claims to have taken photos of most of what he has seen or lived through in his life. His complement in all life's adult journey is his wife Phyllis, he refers to as his better two-thirds. He's encouraged her from early years of marriage to also become a professional writer; and she continues to be under contract as a writer after over forty-five years of professional writing. The author doesn't brag when he compares his life to being somewhat like a blend of Marco Polo and Forrest Gump. In Midland, he delivered dry-cleaning to future Presidents (George H. W. and George W. Bush). And he published Jimmy Carter's "Why Not the Best."
