About the Book

In an unsettling era of poverty and racism, a young boy is pent against the trials of good and evil. Sycamore Ridge is a heart wrenching story of a boy who will have to sacrifice his life to save his faltering neighborhood after a murderous ordeal that claimed the lives of hundreds. Shoeshine and his twin sister, Josephine, embark on a journey of a disturbing mystery after discovering clues to a murder that ultimately changed their lives. But throughout their course of action to unravel the truth of their misplacement, Shoeshine begins to change for the worse as he faces inner demons that are driving him into harms way. Josephine, suffering from years of molestation by their father is hiding a secret that'll shift the foundation of their household, and she can't come to informing her brother of the details due to the fear of him getting hurt or killed. Shoeshine has a destiny, a calling that he has yet to grasp the total concept of, but he has allies who are attempting to guide him to the truth, but these allies resources are limited and interference can cost them their very souls. On a cold dreary day two brothers are attacked by some unreasonable rednecks with a thirst for violence, but surprisingly the two brothers get the best of men and kill one in self defense. In this small southern town in North Carolina such acts were punishable by death, and within the following hour of the incident Shoeshine and the remainder of the neighborhood were fighting for their very lives. Relentless Klansman murder and maimed negros with full intention of wiping the neighborhood entirely off the table. But Shoeshine refused to surrender, and before it is all said and done they will feel his wrath of vengeance. But not before he help his people regather the pieces and cast out the bad seeds who are worsening the state of their survival. With his friends and newly gained crime partner, Potluck, Shoeshine formulates an idea to rebuild his neighborhood, but it would cost a substantial amount of blood on his hands--blood that he swore to never spill. But this is a story of when good turn to bad, love turn to hate, and loyalty is few and far in between. Moonshiners, filthy brothels, and treachery all wrapped up into one.
