About the Book

"Swallows Leave In Autumn" is set in the North East of England with its miles of beautiful golden beaches, blue sea and historic castles, the home of international author, Sebastian Swan. Tom Jackson decides to step out of the "Rat race" and rent a cottage in a quiet fishing village on the North East coast of Northumbria. He'd recently resigned from his job as a schoolteacher. Work he had grown to hate. Tom had a first-class honours degree in fine art. His lecturers told him he was "Exceptional". He was now going to try to make a living as an artist, and see if "Exceptional" would sell enough paintings to put bread on his table. One summer's evening Tom was sitting on a bench, relaxing mindlessly in the sun watching the swallows swoop back and forth, as they sliced through the sunlight before him. Glancing along the beach his eye caught sight of a young woman in the distance. She drew nearer and nearer, walked up the path to where he was seated, sat down beside him and smiled. This was to be the moment, his life changed forever. Tom never imagined what he would have to face. They came from different worlds, which inevitably brought conflict to their relationship. They were to discover the sharp reality that "True love" can be a very painful path to tread. Sebastian Swan invites you to walk, laugh and cry with them. (Come to the North East and sit on Tom's bench, it's there) It was still a bit of a squeeze to get to the door and they were pressed together, for some unknown reason she reached up and kissed his cheek, she looked as surprised as he did. 'Now why on earth did I do that, I'm so sorry.' 'Hey I'm not complaining, it must be the beer and fresh air, gone to your head, I've never been kissed by a Bob before.' 'Anyway, I am sorry, perhaps it's just that you've made me feel happy, it seems a while since I laughed so much.' 'Come on, you need food.' Just as they stepped out of the pub a young man, wearing a blazer and yellow paisley patterned cravat, walked towards them smiling at Jennifer. 'Jennifer, how jolly amazing bumping into you here, are you on holiday too?' He took her in his arms and kissed her on the lips, 'Come on, darling, I'll buy you a drink.' He totally ignored Tom.
About the Author: Sebastian Swan was born in the North East of England not far from Bamburgh, he lectured in Yorkshire, then as the salmon returns to the place of its birth, he returned to the North East when he retired, and started to write. All his life he had struggled with the written word, being dyslexic. Where he did excel was his artwork, he drew and painted from being a small boy. He had cancer, which forced him to retire, while he was ill he started to read for pleasure, he couldn't do much else for a while. He found that in reading he could be transported to another place, a "Dream World". One day he thought he could create his own dream world and started to write, with a little help from his friends, and drew from the vast resources of history and beauty on his doorstep. Most of his books are played out in the beautiful North East of England, where the places in the books can be seen and touched. Come to the North East, sit on the quiet beaches, close your eyes, and be transported into the world of Sebastian Swan. David Mattches BA
