About the Book

Gérard Salomon est né haïtien par son père et dominicain par sa mère le 21 mars 1954, au Cap-Haïtien. Son père était un sous-officier des Forces Armées d'Haïti, qui avait un sens élevé du devoir militaire. Son enfance a été fortement marquée par les valeurs militaires que son père a pu lui inculquer. Le service militaire et la sociologie étaient une passion.

Authentique et fier fils du Grand Nord, il a terminé ses études secondaires au Lycée Philippe Guerrier du Cap-Haïtien, et s'engagea en 1977 à étudier la Sociologie à la Faculté des Sciences Humaines (FASCH) de Port-au-Prince. En 1978, malgré l'objection familiale, il a décidé de s'engager dans les rangs des Forces Armées d'Haïti. Et, c'est là que tout a commencé. D'abord au grade de Sergent, il a eu la chance d'être accepté dans la Promotion Caonabo (1981-1983) à l'Académie Militaire d'Haïti où il a reçu des entraînements, qui le préparaient à une carrière de service militaire traditionnel.

Puis, il est devenu Commandant du Bataillon des Engins Lourds (EL) en 1990, nommé Officier Exécutif de ce bataillon le 28 janvier 1989; responsable de la sécurité de la Radio-Télévision Nationale d'Haïti, en sus de ses fonctions en 1988; Commandant de la 35ème Compagnie de la Garde Présidentielle (1985-1988); Officier de Service au régiment de la Garde Présidentielle (1984-1985); Officier de Service au Corps des Léopards (1983-1984).

Il atteste que l'armée haïtienne lui a offert des chances infinies de se montrer à la hauteur des tâches demandées. Par exemple, ses formations au Fu Hsing Kang Military Collège à Taipei au Taiwan en 1990; à l'école d'infanterie américaine Fort-Benning, Géorgie aux États-Unis en 1986; à la Base Aérienne Américaine Lakeland, San Antonio, Texas en 1985; et plusieurs voyages officiels en France, au Panama et au Mexique. Son éducation militaire lui a également donné de nombreuses ouvertures et expériences pratiques dans la résolution de grands conflits. Mais pour lui, l'aspect le plus important de ce parcours, est d'avoir eu le privilège d'exercer le service militaire et de diriger de bons soldats, d'excellents sous-officiers et officiers.

Ses fonctions au Palais Présidentiel ont fait de lui un observateur privilégié de nombreux événements, et un participant de premier rang dans l'affaire Lafontant. Il a choisi de raconter dans cet ouvrage les dangers auxquels il a eu à faire face au Palais National pendant plus de quinze (15) ans. De claires intentions hostiles contre sa personne, assises sur des preuves solides l'ont poussé à chercher refuge à l'étranger avec sa famille en 1991. Il est mis en disponibilité au grade de Major des Forces Armées d'Haïti.

Étant en exil, en 1994, il entame à Florida Atlantic University à Boca Raton des études avancées sur les différents types d'énergie renouvelable. Il développe les compétences et aptitudes nécessaires pour identifier les besoins technologiques dans l'industrie énergétique. C'est en effet là qu'il prenne plaisir à mener la vie des civils, et occupe le poste de Gestionnaire d'Energy au Compté de Cuyahoga, à Cleveland dans l'Etat d'Ohio depuis l'année 2001 jusqu'à aujourd'hui.
