About the Book

"Real Talk" is about the soft skills a supervisor will need in order to properly mentor and guide our possible future leaders. The Supervisor "Real Talk" is full of Self-Evaluation questions for you to ponder on and answer honestly. It's thought provoking and common sense based. You will realize that you are not alone in that sometime thankless and heavily demanding position of supervisor. First-Line Management is the toughest job in the job market and you should be proud that you have been entrusted with the most "priceless" resource known to man kind: People!
About the Author: Horace Fauntleroy Jr., Retired U.S. Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer, grew up in Newport News, Virginia - A.K.A. Bad News, Virginia. He grew up in the lower part of Newport News, which is better known as the bottom; geographically at the bottom of the peninsula along the Chesapeake Bay. His mother (Anne) and father (Horace Sr.) worked hard and did a marvelous job creating positive and lasting memories for him, his brother and four sisters. His credentials began in the streets of Newport News, where there were followers and leaders, but there was also a middle person. There was a person who influenced the followers and kept them from defecting while advising those who lead about the followers' concerns. Horace found himself in this position most of the time and referred to it as "The Hoodvisor" or, in laymen terms, the supervisor in the neighborhood; the middle man or women who kept the information flowing and most important; the peace. Horace was also Captain of all his sport teams from Pop Warner through College, learning at an early age how important it was to respect each individual, and how honesty and commitment built cohesive teams. His credentials expanded when he joined the military at age 24 and served 20+ years as a troop, supervisor and leader; acquired several hundred hours of leadership and supervisory training and conducted many hours of research while serving in the military. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Human Services. The last 4 years he instructed Leadership and Supervisory courses, which equated to facilitating courses for over 3000 military and civilian employees employed by government and non-government agencies. His motivation for the book was the negative and positive feedbacks from Leadership/Supervisory students; their lack of motivation and the compromising of their commitment. Once Horace decided that there was a HUGE need for this book, he sought guidance from the Creator, his most significant source of motivation and wisdom. He knows that getting supervisors to commit or re-commit in accepting their role and responsibilities will enhance any company's chances of succeeding, ensure the customers get their monies worth and do wonders for the employees and troop's sense of worth. Horace realizes that supervision orchestrated the proper way is vital to the achievement of The Department of Defense (DOD) in protecting our country's resources and the Corporate World's success in the global job market.
