Sunflowers & Daisies is a collection of poetry and illustrations by Kelly and Sean Owens, a husband and wife duo that met on the school bus in elementary school and fell in love in high school. Kelly is a poet, aspiring novelist, former English teacher, and activist for multiple causes. Sean is an illustrator, master carpenter, photographer, and aspiring actor.
Kelly and Sean decided early on that every day of their life together would be an adventure and that they would never stop growing and unfolding. They married on May 26, 2012, surrounded by sunflowers & daisies in mason jars, and their closest friends and family.
In February 2013, they sold everything from their New Jersey home and moved to Ewa Beach, Hawaii, with nothing but suitcases and dreams. Sean worked as a carpenter foreman, as well as took up landscape photography and acting, while Kelly worked as a high school English teacher and freelance writer.
In 2015, Kelly's Crohn's Disease brought her teaching career to a screeching halt, and soon after, they made their way back to New Jersey. Eighteen months later, a clinical trial for bioelectronic medicine brought them to Amsterdam for six months, putting Kelly into remission for the first time in her life.
Now, back in New Jersey, Kelly and Sean decided it was time to follow their dream of publishing a book together. Sunflowers & Daisies is the first of what will be many from these two, consisting of several of Kelly's favorite poems that she has written over the last fifteen years along with illustrations that Sean created specifically to emulate each poem.
