Saloni Khatri wants unconditional happiness- the kind that comes from discovering inner peace and is not associated with worldly pursuits. Here, she takes readers along on her search with her debut poetry collection, Sum of My Sins.
Khatri strives for love, awareness, mindfulness, and oneness. She conveys her search through poems focused on inner conflicts-such as how the pursuit for love can overlap with the bondage of negative relationships-and how one can surmount this by looking inwards. Each poem marks a step down the path of a remarkable journey.
It's a walk back to God, a plea for forgiveness. "I erased my earthly hopes. / My slate is white," she declares.
She also tackles subjects such as learning to love again: "Silence is not my defense," she writes. "Silence is my art. / My mind is now liberated, / to surrender to my heart."
Each step adds up to in the Sum of My Sins. Khatri evaluates them carefully through verse, compiling them in an effort to find happiness in the balance of these moments. An immigrant from India, Khatri knows what it's like to cross cultures and lands.
Now embarking on her inner journey through life, she invites you to come along for the ride.
