Einleitung (...)Im ersten Teil der Arbeit beleuchte ich den historischen Kontext, aus dem heraus "Einsame Menschen" entstanden ist, nämlich im Hinblick auf die Rolle der Frau im sozial-geschichtlichen Wandel der damaligen Zeit. Dabei werde ich erst auf das tradierte Rollenverständnis vor 1900 eingehen, um im zweiten Schritt Aufkommen und Bedeutung der ersten Studentinnen herauszuarbeiten. Auf Grundlage dieser Betrachtungen werde ich im zweiten Teil der Hausarbeit die Figur der Anna Mahr genauer untersuchen. Hierbei erstelle ich zunächst eine vorläufige Charakterisierung, in der ich unter anderem ihre Darstellung in das Rollenverständnis jener Zeit einordne. Daran schließt sich eine Analyse über die Funktionalität der Figur bezüglich der Handlung und der dramatischen Form des Stückes an, um so Aufschluss über die Widersprüchlichkeit ihres Charakters und ihrer Handlungen zu erhalten. Abschließend versuche ich noch eine zusammenfassende Interpretation zur Klärung der Motive in der Hoffnung, auf diese Weise zu einem vollständigen Bild ihrer Person zu gelangen. 2. Der sozial-geschichtliche Hintergrund Der von Gerhard Hauptmann vorangestellten Regieanweisung "Zeit: Gegenwart" (S.2) ist zu entnehmen, dass die Handlung des Dramas zeitgleich in der Entstehungsphase anzusiedeln ist. Hinsichtlich der unterschiedlich skizzierten weiblichen Figuren in "Einsame Menschen" besteht daher die Klärung des sozial-geschichtlichen Hintergrundes, also der Situation von Frauen zur Zeit der vorletzten Jahrhundertwende. Schlagwörter wie "Geschlechterdebatte" tauchen auf, wenn der Fokus auf eine Zeit gerichtet wird, in der das weibliche Geschlecht durch ein sich wandelndes Selbstverständnis und durch veränderte Verhaltensweisen kontroverse Auseinandersetzungen hervorruft. Zum ersten Mal steht hierbei wieder die Frau als Individuu
