This book has addressed the age old problem of parent-child relationship from a new dimension i.e., quality of parent-child relationship. Staying with children for a longer time and/or providing materialistic items or fulfilling all demands does not necessarily mean that parents are giving quality time to their children. During adolescence close relationship with parents is important since this relationship function as model or template that is carried forward over time to influence the construction of new relationships in future. At the same time, it may be stated that for healthy mental, career and social development of children and adolescent, parents play the role of an architect. However, in reality a good number of adolescents develop tremendous conflict over various issues with the parents. These conflicts with the parents push them towards the peer group, which in turn makes the relationship between an adolescent and his/her parent strained. On the basis of the findings of the study the authors suggested a number of measures for effective parenting. Therefore, this book will be immensely beneficial for the all the teachers, councilors, psychiatrists, psychologists and NGOs dealing with adolescents. This book is also highly recommended for all the parents so that they can deal with their children and adolescents in a friendly manner.

Sibnath Deb, M Sc, LLBV and PhD has been working as Faculty Member in the Dept. of Applied Psychology, University of Calcutta. He has got 19 years research and teaching experience and produced five PhD's Dr. Deb has handled more than 40 large-scale qualitative and quantitative studies and published more than 60 research papers.
Currently, Dr. Deb is the Council Member of the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN), USA. He is also in the editorial board of the 'Journal of Interpersonal Violence', USA. The country which he visited for study, delivering invited lecture and/or presenting research papers include US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Moscow, Ireland., Germany, Mauritius, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Philippines and so on. Current areas of research interest include child maltreatment and protection, adolescent reproductive health and HIV/AIDS and applied social psychology.
Pooja Chatterjee, M Sc and PhD in Applied Psychology from Calcutta University is currently Lecture in the Department of Psychology, Asutosh College. She has four years of research experience and published six research papers. Prior to joining the Asutosh College, she worked in ICMR Task Force Project entitled 'Reproductive and Sexual Health Education for Adolescents'-a multi-centric intervention project as Senior Investigator under the leadership of Dr. Sibnath Deb. She also worked on Gokhale Memorial Girls' College as part time lecturer in the Department of Psychology for about three years and as student counselor in the same college. She was also a part time lecturer in the Dept. of Psychology in Smt. JD Birla College. Her experience in an NGO in the field of drug abuse and HIV/AIDS made her more knowledgeable of the problems which affect adolescents in Indian society. Her areas of interest are parent-child relationship, adolescent reproductive health and applied social psychology.
