Die GVO 1400/02 liberalisiert den Autohandel und verursacht gleichzeitig einen erhöhten Wettbewerbsdruck. Das 2006 in Kraft tretende Basel II verschlechtert bereits jetzt, aber insbesondere in Zukunft, die Finanzierungsmöglichkeiten von eigenkapitalschwachen Unternehmen. Die Folge ist eine anhaltende Konsolidierung im Automobilhandel, gekennzeichnet von größeren Unternehmenseinheiten und Niederlassungen. Neue Vertriebsnetzstrategien der Kfz-Hersteller verschärfen den Konzentrationsprozess zusätzlich. Die Zukunft wird von reorganisierten Automobilhandelsgruppen, die ihre Synergien ausnutzen, und kooperierenden Autohäusern mit einem professionellen Management geprägt sein. Die sich ergebenden Organisationsformen zeichnen sich durch komplexere Strukturen innerhalb der Unternehmen aus. Die vorhandene Informationstechnologie muss an die daraus resultierenden Geschäftsprozesse angepasst werden. Priorität hat die Vermeidung von be- und entstehenden Ineffizienzen sowie die Umsetzung benötigter Funktionalitäten zur Unternehmensführung.
