About the Book

2016 verstarb Pierre Boulez, einer der zentralen Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts und des sogenannten "Serialismus". Er selbst prägte diesen Denkstil entscheidend mit durch seine Werke und seine Schriften. In der zweiten Hälfte der 50er Jahre unterwarf er den Serialismus selbst einer Analyse, ganz besonders durch die Komposition seiner "Dritten Klaviersonate", hier noch tiefgründiger als in seinen Schriften. Dieses fulminante Fragment einer Sonate, von dem er große Teile wieder zurückzog, setzt sich tief auseinander mit Literatur, insbesondere mit Mallarmé und Joyce. Beide Dichter verbindet Boulez im Rahmen seiner komplex formulierten Musiksprache mit dem damals auch in die Kompositionswelt gelangenden Gedanken der "offenen Form". Einen der veröffentlichten Teile der Sonate, "Trope" ("Einfügung" im mittelalterlichen Sinn) werden wir hier eingehend untersuchen, nicht nur in seinen rein-musikalischen Strukturelementen, sondern ganz besonders in seiner ästhetischen Haltung. Wir werden sehen, dass dieses Werk weitgespannt künstlerische und nebenbei auch naturwissenschaftliche Positionen des 20. Jahrhunderts mit einbezieht und beschreibt. Diese Sonate wird sich herausstellen als eine Klang gewordene Philosophie.
About the Author: Der Hamburger Komponist und Musikologe Manfred Stahnke wurde 1951 in Kiel geboren und studierte ab 1966 in Lübeck Violine, Klavier und Komposition, ab 1970 in Freiburg, Hamburg und in den USA Komposition, Musikwissenschaft und Computermusik. Er legte das Examen in "Musiktheorie und Komposition" 1973 in Freiburg bei Wolfgang Fortner ab. 1979 promovierte er in Hamburg bei Constantin Floros über Pierre Boulez. Seine Lehrer in Komposition waren nach Wolfgang Fortner: Klaus Huber und Brian Ferneyhough (Freiburg), Ben Johnston (Urbana, USA) und György Ligeti (Hamburg). Zu seinen Kompositionen zählen Bühnenwerke: "DER UNTERGANG DES HAUSES USHER" 1981, "HEINRICH DER VIERTE" 1987, "WAHNSINN, DAS IST DIE SEELE DER HANDLUNG", Neufassung Berlin Staatsoper 2012, "ORPHEUS KRISTALL" 2002, Biennale München. Ferner Orchesterwerke und Konzerte, u.a. aufgeführt vom Radiosinfonieorchester Hilversum, den Kieler Philharmonikern und dem SWR-Sinfonieorchester, darunter "DANZBODNLOCK", Violinsinfonie mit Barbara Lüneburg (Violine) und Hans Zender; "SCALES OF AGES", Saxophonsinfonie mit John-Edward Kelly (Saxophon) und Thomas Kalb. Außerdem schrieb Stahnke viele Kammermusiken für Ensembles wie das ensemble modern, das Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam, das ensemble decoder etc. Er reiste mit dem Ensemble CHAOSMA als Komponist und Keyboarder in viele Erdteile; war in Neuseeland, Südafrika oder in den USA Vortragender über aktuelle Musik; spielt derzeit mit dem Improvisationsensemble "TonArt" Viola. Seit 1989 ist er an der "Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg" Professor für Komposition, seit 1999 Mitglied der "Freien Akademie der Künste in Hamburg", wo er derzeit (2017) die Sektion Musik leitet. Er wirkte viele Jahre im Musikbeirat des Goethe-Instituts München.
