About the Author: Heather Branscombe is a physiotherapist, entrepreneur, and author with over 15 years experience in both the public and private health sector. As a mom of three, including one child with a pediatric stroke, Heather has a unique perspective and passion that drove her create Abilities Neurological Rehabilitation in 2007. Abilities is a multi-disciplinary private clinic for children and adults with neurological challenges. It has quickly grown to three clinic locations in the suburbs of Vancouver British Columbia, with a plan for continued expansion in the future. Heather's professional passion continues to be the integration of rehabilitation technology into practice. She has consulted as a clinical specialist to a rehabilitation technology company and has taught therapists, orthotists and physicians across Canada. Not afraid to be an innovator and pioneer, she has brought many emerging technologies and therapy practices to Canada through Abilities. Heather strongly believes that the integration of technology into clinical practice is a vital way to democratize rehabilitation services. Access, education, and client choice are all important values that she strives to weave into all of her professional projects. Heather and Abilities are now seen within the industry as a community partner in emerging therapies. Often asked to collaborate on research initiatives, she is involved in research projects with the University of British Columbia (FEATHER's project) and has been asked to be the exclusive partner in several emerging therapy practices. Professionally, Heather volunteers her time as the current chair of the Neurosciences Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, running, and the beautiful outdoors.
