About the Book

Marilyn: [Father, the idiot who wants to buy her is also the junior member of the flight on call at night. His flight rotated up here from that other airbase. His flight members are the only trained people up here. All four aircraft are parked on the landing field. His aircraft is ready to be flown now.]
Hairy Pig: [Marilyn, be careful.]
Marilyn: [Father, I am leaving now.]
Marilyn woke up a sobbing Atah. [Atah, we are leaving now.]
Atah: [Ghost, how? I will freeze to death outside.]
Marilyn: [Atah, do you want to live with a new lord?]
Atah: [No, ghost. I am afraid that a new lord will kill me.]
Marilyn: [Then relax and I will get you out of here.]
Atah: [Ghost, I will do as you ask. What do you want me to do?]
Marilyn: [Atah, get that big silver carafe and fill it with cao. Your lord is asleep.]
Atah: [Ghost, I will.]
Atah carefully moved out of Kum's bed to the food preparation area. She carefully made the cao. [Ghost, now what?]
Marilyn: [Atah, put on your parka. I want you to carry it to the pilots.]
Atah: [How am I to do that? The lord will hear the locks and feel the cold air when I open the door. I can't do both, carry the cao and open the door.]
Marilyn: [Atah, I will open the door and close it.]
Atah: [I am afraid.]
Marilyn: [Atah, you have been sold to another man who may kill you with sex and beatings. What else could happen to you?]
Atah put on her homemade parka. She shuffled out of Kum's bungalow with the large carafe with about four kilos of cao. Atah could barely carry it as she waddled with the heavy, cumbersome carafe full of hot liquid in deep snow. Marilyn had opened and shut the front door of the bungalow before locking the door. There were two locks. One that could be unlocked from the outside and one that could not without a police warrant. Marilyn locked both so Kum would be confused when he discovered Atah was gone. Atah slowly shuffled the heavy carafe to the pilot's hut 300 meters away from the engineer's section of the base. She put down the carafe to knock on the door of the hut. The pilots on duty opened the door, allowed her inside, to sample the heavily caffeinated cao. Sub-lieutenant Viq smiled as Atah walked out of the hut. The door was closed behind her by an admiring sub-lieutenant.
Atah: [Ghost, now what?]
Marilyn: [Walk over to the four aircraft in front of the open door.]
Atah carefully made her way to a large aircraft that was furthest from the hut door.
Marilyn: [Atah, grab the handles on the end of that green hose where it connects with the aircraft. Turn the handles with both hands to your left. Pull it to you, walk away from the aircraft with the hose; put it on the ground near the white stripe. Now, hold the bottom of the ladder. Hold it tightly. Push up on the ladder. Now, lay it down near the hose away from the aircraft. Now, close your eyes tight.]
Marilyn levitated Atah into the pilot's seat.
Marilyn: [Do not scream. Open your eyes. Do not scream.]
Marilyn used Atah's body to close the canopy, fasten the seat harness on Atah's small, parka-clad, body, adjust the seat so Atah could reach the pedals, and start the engines. Atah released the brakes to roll the aircraft out of the ice shelter. Marilyn moved Atah's small hands to push the throttles forward to accelerate to 200 kilometers per hour before rot
