The fifth edition has been updated with new examples and practices from the human resources field as well as new cases and exercises to help students apply the concepts presented in the text.

About the Author

Kenneth McBey Kenneth McBey is a professor of Human Resources and Organizational Behaviour at York University. His research and teaching draw on his earlier career as an infantry officer in the Canadian army, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and commanding officer of the 48th Highlanders of Canada. Professor McBey earned an Honours B.A. in political economy and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto, and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the Schulich School of Business at York University. Ying Hong Ying Hong is an assistant professor in human resources and management at McMaster University. She teaches strategic HR planning and compensation. She researches the strategic role of human resources in businesses and has contributed to journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, books such as the Sage Handbooks of Human Resource Management, and periodicals such as the Financial Post. Ying holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Relations/Human Resources and an M.S. in I/O Psychology. Margaret Yap Margaret Yap is an associate professor in human resources management at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in human resources management at Ryerson University and at the University of Toronto. Her research interests include human resources management in a global economy and diversity and equity in organizations focusing on ethnicity/race and gender. Prior to joining Ryerson, she was a research director at a nonprofit research and advisory organization and had held numerous human resources management roles at a multinational organization, including a three-year international assignment in Asia/Pacific. She was the director of the Diversity Institute in Management and Technology from 2006 to 2011. Monica Belcourt Monica Belcourt is the Director of the School of Human Resources Management at York University. She is the Past President of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPAO), past Director of the School of Administrative Studies and the founding Director of the Graduate Program in Human Resources Management at York University. Her research is grounded in the experience she gained as Director of Personnel for CP Rail, Director of Employee Development, National Film Board, and as a functional HR specialist for the federal government. Dr. Belcourt alternated work with graduate school, earning a MA in Psychology, a M. Ed in adult education, and a PhD in business. She also holds the designation CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional). She has taught HR at McGill, Concordia, Universite du Quebec a Montreal and York, and given seminars for HR professionals and executives. She created Canada’s first degrees in human resources management: B.HRM (honours) and a Masters in HRM (www.atkinson.yorku.ca/mhrm/). Monica is the Series Editor for the Nelson Canada Series in HRM, lead author of Strategic Human Resources Planning, and is the lead author of the best selling book, Managing Human Resources, published by Nelson (www.belcourt.nelson.com). She is a frequent commentator on HRM issues for CTV, Canada AM, CBC, The Report on Business, The Globe and Mail, The Canadian HR Reporter and other media.

    A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

    Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
