Kelly Dougherty and Justin Walling had just that question and have answered it in The Story of Che, a children's book based on their own family's story of how a boy from Guatemala came to be part of a family in the United States. With personal clarity of how differently families can form, and deep exploration into the ever-pressing issue of how a child might interpret comments from outside the home, Dougherty and Walling chose to literally illustrate exactly how their family came to be. "We are living in a world where families come in all shapes, numbers, and colors," says Dougherty.
