Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2008 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Theorien, Modelle, Begriffe, Note: 2,7, Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Veranstaltung: Unterhaltung durch Medien, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit hat eine Analyse und Überprüfung der Mood-Management-Theorie zum Ziel. Es soll geprüft werden, ob diese Theorie das Phänomen "Unterhaltung" aus motivationaler Sicht erklären kann und somit gerechtfertigt ist, dass sie einen so zentralen und prominenten Stellenwert in der Kommunikationswissenschaft, beziehungsweise in der Unterhaltungsforschung, einnimmt. Hierzu wird zunächst der Begriff "Unterhaltung" aus Zillmanns Sicht erläutert. Bevor die Theorie kritisch überprüft werden kann, muss geklärt werden, was Zillmann überhaupt erklären wollte, welche Fragestellung seiner Theorie zugrunde liegt. Erst wenn seine Vorstellung von unterhaltenden Medieninhalten deutlich geworden ist, kann in einem zweiten Schritt mit der Analyse der Theorie begonnen werden. Hierzu werden in Kapitel 3 sowohl die ursprüngliche Mood-Management-Theorie von 1986, als auch die Erweiterungen und Neuerungen, die Zillmann im Laufe der Jahre hinzugefügt hat, erläutert werden. Ist diese Grundlage geschaffen, kann mit der kritischen Überprüfung der Theorie begonnen werden. Zu diesem Zweck werden in Kapitel 4 einige Experimente analysiert, die die empirischen Belege und somit aus Zillmanns Sicht die Bestätigungen der These darstellen. Es muss geprüft werden, ob die Ergebnisse die Theorie wirklich bestätigen, oder ob sich eventuell Widersprüchlichkeiten ergeben. Ziel dieses ersten Analyseschrittes ist es, herauszufinden, ob Zillmann dahingehend erfolgreich war, dass es ihm gelungen ist, seine eigene Fragestellung zufrieden stellend zu beantworten. In Kapitel 5 sollen abschließend in einem zweiten Analyseschritt die Grenzen der Theorie aufgezeigt werden.
