In der pädagogischen Literatur findet man immer häufiger eine Arbeitsform, die mit den Begriffen wie Lern- und Übungszirkel, Lernparcours oder Stationenbetrieb belegt ist. Alle angeführten Begrifflichkeiten meinen ein und das Selbe: Stationenlernen. Diese Arbeitsform fand vor ungefähr 50 Jahren im Sportunterricht durch das bekannte Zirkeltraining ihren Ursprung. Aber auch die Reformpädagogen, wie Montessori oder Key haben diese Arbeitsform angesprochen und dienten als Anregung für die Grundschulpädagogik. In den letzten fünfzehn Jahren wurde das Stationenlernen im Grundschulbereich intensiviert und neben dem Fach Sport auch auf andere Fächer übertragen. Die Lebenswelt der Kinder in der heutigen Zeit hat sich gravierend verändert und verändert sich durch die ständig zunehmenden technischen Neuerungen immer weiter. Es ist möglich, dass Kinder eher mit technischen Geräten umgehen können als ihre Eltern oder Lehrer, da sie mit dem Medienkonsum aufwachsen. Von den Menschen wird erwartet, dass sie im Berufsleben selbständig und kompetent arbeiten können. Von daher muss die Schule es sich zur Aufgabe machen, die richtige Vorbereitung der Kinder auf ihr späteres Leben mit all den gesellschaftlichen Anforderungen zu treffen, wobei die Menschlichkeit nicht außer Acht gelassen werden darf.
