About the Book

Welcome Back to Bugler After a Christmas spent with Mark's family in Fort Worth, Texas, which advertised itself as the Queen City of the Prairie, Mark and Elise and their twins returned home to Bugler, Wyoming. Ellen, a young woman from the town, now a college student in another state came to ask Elise's advice on a particularly painful subject that later drove Elise to her knees. An entire family mysteriously stole away from town during the night with all their possessions. The men of Bugler had tried for years to interest a doctor in coming to their town. Suddenly they learned of one who had already purchased a house and was planning his move. Could he have more than one interest? Ethan Grey received a letter addressed to him which contained the surprise of his young life. A woman whose husband perished on the journey was near collapse when she and her daughter arrived at Wade and Cook's ranch. Watch for the 'delegation of women'. No one thought rustlers would be so brazen as to target the town of Bugler. Perhaps it was the reputation of the beautiful riding horses Mark finished training. A ranch couple moved to town and an accidental discovery opened the wounds of old sorrows. Later in this story a blessing comes to them because of their loss. Mark, Elise and another couple attended the Cheyenne Frontier Days, with twice as many visitors as residents in the young city. New life is coming to Bugler. Blessings on all the readers of this continuing story.
About the Author: The author grew up on a farm in the Midwest during the Great Depression. There was no electricity, indoor plumbing, central heating or telephone. Life was difficult but family oriented with much community support in those times. Farmers worked from dawn to dark. Home grown beef and hogs provided meat, and there were cows for milk. Their wives tended large vegetable gardens and raised chickens for food and eggs in addition to the household chores and caring for their children. Small one-room country schools provided a good basic education and a meeting place for once a month socials. The author now lives in a modest red brick ranch style home in a country subdivision. She likes to be outside in summer working in the yard and growing flowers and vegetables. Birds and squirrels come to the food and water provided in winter and summer. This series of stories, beginning with Elise, began coming into her thoughts eight years ago, about six weeks after her husband had received the diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer. The story came with a persistence, so she sat at her computer to write what she assumed would be a short story which could be shared with her grandchildren. After a few days of writing in spare moments she realized that she must be working in about the third chapter of a novel. These characters all came to her as they are, full-blown and with looks, personalities and capabilities of their own. She believes they were given by our Lord for several reasons. It had been her prayer for years that she might be an encourager and this series of novels, she hopes, will be an encouragement to many. Doris did not know from day to day where the story was going. She simply wrote as it came to her, sometimes so fast that she had several notebooks going at a time and a pad of paper at her bedside to capture the ideas before they might be lost. She was often as surprised, amused or sorrowful as anyone by the unexpected turns of the story and choices of the characters. She used the internet to substantiate facts as needed. Doris says "There was no story board, no overall plan. It has been such a joy and encouragement in this journey. I love the characters, the time and the setting of the story. And I am so very grateful to our Lord for bringing it to publication. The support of family and friends has been invaluable. The fifth novel in the series is partially written at this time."
