Die Auseinandersetzung mit Software hat in der betriebswirtschaftIichen For- schung erst eine sehr kurz e Tradition. Der Vielzahl technologisch orienterter Ab- handlungen über Software im Rahmen der Informatik stehen nur wenige (rasch veralternde) Veröffentlichungen gegenüber, die den Zusammenhang zur Betriebs- wirtschaftlehre und hier insbesondere zum Marketing und zur Organisationsfor- schung herstellen. Diese wichtigen Beziehungen stehen in dem vorliegenden Buch im Vordergrund. Dieses Buch entstand an der Abteilung Wirtschaftsinformatik der Wirtschaftsuni- versität Wien als Ergebnis des Projekts "Untersuchung der organisatorischen Ein- satzbedingungen von mehrfach-verwendbarer Anwendungssoftware/Standardan- wendungssoftware", das vom Fonds zur Förderung der wissenschaftlichen For- schung finanziert wurde. Aus den Zielen dieses Projekts (vgl. Abschnitt 1.3) er- gab sich die Ausrichtung der Untersuchungen: Es sollte die Softwaresituation in Österreich bei kleineren und mitUeren Unternehmen empirisch analysiert wer- den. Daraus folgt, daS wir in erster linie Aussagen über die Verhältnisse in Österreich machenj die Übertragbarkeit der Ergebnisse auf den deutschsprachi- gen Raum ist gegeben. Allgemein gültige Aussagen, die wir oft hypothetisch formulieren, festigen bzw. bestätigen sich jedoch erst im Vergleich mit anderen Untersuchungen.
