About the Book

Just a beat or two down the block from the heart of the NYC theater entertainment district is where anything goes to keep the doors open and asses in the seats. The action takes place at an Off-Off-Broadway performance space and hangout for New York's aspiring performers, producers, and occasional big names. The story begins with the death of STAGEMORE long time owner and the arrival of his nephew Bobby Miles from Kansas City. Bobby is an ex hard-drinking blues-rock singer, bouncer, and club promoter who has cleaned up his act and is excited to have found a new lease on life working as a producer at his uncle's business he arrives to find things aren't quite the way he remembered. The fact is his Uncle has left the place in dire financial straights with his gambling and drinking. Working at the venue is an assortment of artists/producers/actors who are looking to him for guidance as Uncle Steve's untimely departure has left them in hopeful anticipation that the nephew will fill the shoes of their departed friend and boss. With little theater experience, Bobby work tirelessly with the crew of colorful characters at STAGEMORE to bring in new and sometimes very "creative" acts to pay the bills. It's always tough in the city that never sleeps and to help Dash - the company producer/actor who has been to the top and back more then once. Is there for the team he misses his friend and is angry with the way things turned out. Also part of the team is Carrie Huffman, a smart go getter who works in the office one minute and is on a audition the next. She was given a job when she needed it most and is dedicated to the success of the business. As a matter of fact, all those who work at the club from the maintenance woman to the bartender, are struggling actors most of them went to the school of hard knocks and have formed a sincere bond and are prepared to do whatever it takes to succeed. While the team at STAGEMORE cooks up new ways to stay afloat, a rival business is busy preparing to take them out. Shady producers are knocking at the door, someone is swallowing flames in theater 3, and Shakespeare is best enjoyed with burlesque girls in the theater bar. Just a beat or two down the block from the heart of the NYC theater entertainment district Bobby Miles and his company have their hands full.
