Die hier abgedruckten Beitrage gehen auf eine internationale und interdisziplinare Konferenz des Geisteswissenschaftlichen Zentrums Geschichte und Kultur Ostmitteleuropas e.V. in Leipzig zuruck, die im Januar 2000 stattfand. Die in diesem Band versammelten Texte gehen der Frage nach, welche Zusammenhange es zwischen Raum und Kommunikation gibt. Welchen Zusammenhang gibt es zwischen dem Schauplatz Stadt und den dort vorzufindenden Offentlichkeiten? Welche Rolle spielen diese Kategorien zusammen, d.h. in ihrer - moglicherweise spezifischen - Kombination fur die Geschichtsregion Ostmitteleuropa?
