About the Book

This is the seventh novel in A California Saga series. The time frame of this novel essentially parallels "The Heart of the Beholder", the first novel of this series. Now we will find out considerably more about what went on in Southern California that caused the disaster during Mike O'Donnell and Jo Beebe's college years.Mindy (Maylinda) Rudolph is growing up in a very repressive fundamentalistic church environment with a nearly clueless mother, an oppressive stepfather, Richard O'Donnell, and a brutal husband. Richard O'Donnell directs Mindy to go to UC Davis to destroy the relationship between Mike O'Donnell and Jo Beebe. Much of this will sound familiar to those who have read the first book in the series; however, we see things in a considerably different light. We know Mindy breaks away, but it certainly isn't easy.We really knew very little about George Essegian's early life. He had it all figured out. He had joined the Air Force to escape his domineering mother. Steeped in her Armenian heritage, she more or less directed her children in the direction she wished them to go. George wanted to do it his own way. He would join the Air Force, get his degree, get a commission, meet a wonderful Armenian girl and have a large family. Things have ways of going the way you least expect it. He meets the love of his life and they start a family. The only problem is she's not Armenian and George's mother ostracizes him with instructions that no one in his family is to ever communicate with him. George never gets accepted for officer training. Instead he leaves the service and joins the Redding, California Police Department. Then Inga gets cancer from which she never recovers. The only things that keep George from going insane are his two children. Then he meets Mindy. This story is the beginning of a great love affair that we know goes on and on. Of course the question is who is the Dragon? This story is loosely based on what happened to a high school friend of mine. I've tried to find him, but with no luck so far. Also read "The Heart of the Holder", The Narragansett Fork", "Musetta's Waltz", "Who is Sylvia", "Five Love Stories en Brochette", "The Redhead and the PM", "Soaring With Eagles" and "Love's Shame, Love's Salvation."Cover photo purchased for commercial use from Cassell-Magazine of Art.
