Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Vor ca. 2500 Jahren fanden die ersten dokumentierten Auktionen statt. Bis heute hat sich hierbei eine Vielzahl von Auktionsformen herausgebildet. Im Zuge der Einführung von USENET gab es vor etwa 25 Jahren die ersten Online-Auktionen. Durch die seitdem stark zunehmende Zahl der Internetnutzer stieg auch das Angebot an professionellen Online-Auktionsplattformen. Dabei besteht für den Verkäufer gegenüber herkömmlichen Auktionen insbesondere der Vorteil, dass er sich bei Online-Auktionen einer viel größeren Zahl potentieller Käufer gegenüber sieht und damit einen höheren Verkaufspreis erwarten kann. Die Käufer profitieren davon, dass sie bei diesen Auktionen nicht mehr physisch anwesend sein müssen und die Angebotspalette entsprechend größer ist. Das bis heute weltweit erfolgreichste Internet-Auktionshaus ist eBay. Es wurde 1995 gegründet und verzeichnet heute über 114 Mio. registrierte Mitglieder in 31 internationalen Märkten. Mit dieser Entwicklung werfen Online-Auktionen und insbesondere eBay-Auktionen neue Fragen auf und rücken immer mehr in das Interesse von wissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen. Im Rahmen der Spieltheorie besteht eine wichtige Fragestellung darin, das Verhalten rationaler Bieter in Online-Auktionen zu ermitteln sowie diese Vorhersagen mit dem tatsächlichen Verhalten zu vergleichen und mögliche Gründe für Abweichungen zu finden. In dieser Diplomarbeit wird eine wichtige Abweichung dieser Verhaltensweisen herausgegriffen und analysiert. Untersucht wird, zu welchen Zeitpunkten die Bieter während der Auktionslaufzeit ihre Gebote abgeben. Zu beobachten ist, dass bei eBay-Auktionen vermehrt in den letzten Minuten der Auktionslaufzeit Gebote abgegeben werden. Von großem Interesse ist diese Fragestellung, da hier eine deutliche Abweichung von dem beobachteten Verhalten gegenüber den Ergebnissen der Theorie auftritt.
