Sarah is pregnant with her ex-boyfriend Toby's baby. She's convinced he won't want either of them when he finds out. She can't blame him either. He has already set off on a new and exciting chapter in his life that has taken him far away from home.
Her family have turned their back on her. So has Toby's mother. And she's determined to leave Toby to enjoy his well-organised plans.
She only has one option. To start her own life anew and wait for her baby to arrive. Sarah's clever enough, hard-working enough. She'll look after her baby whatever it takes.
But then Ralph comes along. He's attentive, seemingly wholesome and offers her a way out. She accepts his proposal without much thought - it's not just about her now, she has a baby to consider - and Ralph is more than keen to play daddy.
However, Ralph's true colours emerge soon after their own baby is born. When he relocates his small family to Lake Zurich in Switzerland following a work promotion, and Sarah is snatched from the safety net of her friends and family, her days are spent stuck at their home, taking care of her boys and she has little respite. Meanwhile, Ralph is leading a single man's life and enjoying all the trappings of his well-paid job and important position in the business.
When Sarah confronts him about his affair, she is forced to return to the UK or succumb to his increasingly vicious threats. Back in the bosom of her family she gradually grows in confidence and reclaims her life. She even reunites with Toby and gets to know him again.
But if she thinks ruthless Ralph won't want revenge, she's wrong.
After all, he knows her Achille's heel. He knows her secrets.
And he's coming to get her...
