El autor pretende llegar al gran público no familiarizado con el ballet llevándolo a una especie de iniciación y a la vez, lograr interesar a los conocedores de este arte con sus testimonios y reflexiones acerca de la vida del bailarín en el complejo universo de una de las más importantes compañías del mundo, el Ballet Nacional de Cuba en su Época de Oro. y especialmente, de la danza de una de las bailarinas más grandes de todos los tiempo, Alicia Alonso, de la que fue agudo observador.
About the Author: Manuel Hidalgo Iglesias recibió su entrenamiento en danza de los maestros del Ballet Nacional de Cuba Laura Alonso, Lázaro Carreño, Raúl Bustabad, Reynaldo Muñiz, Miguel Gómez, Iván Tenorio, Iván Monreal, Ceferino Barrios, Adolfo Roval, Norma Barreras y Joaquín Banegas, entre otros. Fue bailarín del Ballet Universitario, auspiciado por el Ballet Nacional, y solista del Grupo Danzaria, dirigido por Laura Alonso, interpretando los roles protagónicos en los ballets "Imágenes" (Los Enamorados), de Menia Martínez; "La Avanzada", de Azari Plisetsky, y "La Esfinge" y "Paolo y Francesca", ambas de Miguel Gómez. Bailó las Czardas del ballet "Coppelia" junto a solistas del Ballet Nacional en funciones finales del Curso Internacional de Ballet (CUBBALET) en el Teatro García Lorca de La Habana, e interpretó el papel de Víctor en "Yerma", con coreografía suya en la Ciudad de México. Participó con el cuerpo de baile del BNC en los ballets "Giselle" y "El Lago de los Cisnes", interpretados por Alicia Alonso, primeros bailarines del BNC y del Ballet de la Opera de París, en funciones regulares y durante Festivales Internacionales de Ballet de La Habana en los teatros García Lorca y Karl Marx. Es autor de guiones para ballet inspirados en Romeo y Julieta, Macbeth, Francesca da Rímini y José Martí. Escribe artículos de danza para la revista "Danza en Escena" (España) y colaboró con la mexicana "Danza, Pasión y Movimiento". Fue traductor de las revistas "Cuba en el Ballet" y "Pro Danza" del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, así como del Ballet Teatro del Espacio en México. Tiene Maestría en Lingüística Aplicada a la Enseñanza del Inglés y Licenciatura en Lengua y Literatura Inglesas por la Universidad de La Habana. Es consultor académico, entrenador de maestros, diseñador de programas de estudio y exámenes, y Director del instituto Quill Idiomas en la Ciudad de México.
