About the Book

Collected from over a decade and a half, Spoken Word is an autopsy of family and personal journey revealed through verse. Often times sensual, and driven by the social restraints of politics, the poet's voice and stalwart obligation to examine the human condition is at the forefront of this body of work. Born in Washington, DC in 1967, and raised in southern Maryland, this collection reflects the poet's journey through the badlands of New Mexico and his return to the East Coast. The visionary mind behind the independent production of Poetry Television and the award-winning filmmaker of the feature documentary, Committing Poetry in Times of War, is laid bare with naked truth and a whimsical Zen-like nature. Composed with photography from the artist's own anthology, additional artworks from modern artists Skye Andrews, Lydia Burris, Erick Spitzkeit, Benjamin Butler, and Kate Tsocanos adorn the pages of this intimate book, accentuating the spirit and raw emotion of Stavros's poetry.
About the Author: Notorious Poet. Fool. Born in Washington DC. Stavros was a writer and editor for The Independent Underground Magazine. A performing poet, whose verse has been published in several online and print publications, including Central Avenue, The Sword That Cuts Through Stone, Poets Against The War, Conceptions Southwest, The Mynd, Imagine: Creative Arts Journal, and Bartleby, where he won a specialty award for his poem, Blackbird. In 1999, he won an Official Selection into the Writer's on the Edge Festival for his play, The Redline. In 2001, he created the Poetry Television Project for public cable access in Albuquerque, NM. He helped to launch Unpublished Magazine and BioGamer Girl, sponsored the monthly poetry series, The Word Café, and produced a political compilation called Poetic Democracy. In 2007, he released the award-winning documentary film, Committing Poetry in Times of War, for Ubuntuworks. In 2010, he launched Crazy Duck Press with the release his first novel, Blood Junky, which continues to receive exceptional praise and review. He soon followed his premiere novel with the release of the highly popular, but sardonic, Dead Girl: A Romantic Zombie Tale of Revenge, and Blood Junky's sequel, Love in Vein, which Living Dead Media defined, saying: "This series and more directly this novel is comparable with, and at times, surpasses the 'Vampire Chronicles' by Anne Rice." Most recently, he's co-produced and co-edited the annual anthology, Vampire News, which has released three volumes, and is being adapted into an online news show. Stavros is a visual artist who creates stunning photographic illusions and an accomplished fangsmith, who launched Kaos Kustom Fangs in 2012, and Studio on the Square in 2014, in downtown Marietta, GA. He regularly appears at horror conventions around the USA, and is a graphic designer and musician who has scored music for commercials, film shorts, documentaries, and television programs.
