About the Book

This book an exact copy of author's PhD dissertation published in 2004 by University of Delaware. Subject matter of this book is split Hopkinson pressure bar or Kolskey bar, an instrument for the dynamic characterization of materials. A brief review of Hopkinson bar development and its uses are presented in addition to Hopkinson bar analyses using LS-Dyna finite element method and applications to composite materials.
About the Author: Dr. Bazle Z. (Gama) Haque has changed his name from his former name, Dr. Bazle A. Gama. He has received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) where he served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor from 1992 to 1995. In 1997, he completed a M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tuskegee University, Alabama. Dr. Haque completed his Ph.D. from the Materials Science and Engineering department at University of Delaware in 2004. Since Oct. 2000, he has been a full-time Research Professional, since Dec. 2004 an Associate Scientist, since Feb. 2008 a Scientist, and since Sept. 2012 a Senior Scientist at the University of Delaware Center for Composite Materials (UD-CCM). Dr. Haque also served as an Engineer/Scientist at the Boeing Company, Ridley Park, PA, since Sept. 2006 till Feb. 2008 and since Nov. 2012 serving as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at UD. Dr. Haque's research include, experimental and computational impact dynamics, penetration mechanics, energy absorbing damage mechanisms of composites and sandwich, multi-scale damage modeling of composites, nano-mechanics, dynamic behavior of materials, Hopkinson bar experimental techniques, blast and ballistic impact, and processing and repair of composite structural armor. Dr. Haque is a member of ASC, and SAMPE, and was PI and Co-PI to many DoD funded SBIR/STTR programs and projects funded by ARL, ONR, and different companies and industries. Dr. Haque has 50+ technical publications in refereed journals and 100+ publications in conference proceedings. He is the recipient of ACMA 2006 best technical paper of the show, SAMPE 2005 best paper award, and UD-CCM Scholarship Award 2005, ASC Best Paper 2009, & UD-CCM Scholarship Award 2011 & 2012. Dr. Haque has a track record of collaborative research with 30+ industrial and academic collaborators. Dr. Haque has developed graduate course MSEG/MEEG 667: Impact and Damage Modeling of Composites, and has taught this class for three consecutive years since Spring 2013, and also writing a book on this topic. Dr. Haque is a national expert in progressive composite damage modeling and the technical contact for the LS-DYNA composite damage model MAT162. He has investigated numerous analyses of impact, damage, perforation, penetration, and micro-erosion of composites and is highly qualified in this field.
