About the Book

ANOTHER WORLD: Lost in the Stone Age on a coast much like the Pacific Northwest, where women are slaves, homosexuality is punished by death, and the People are ruled by shamans. A powerful shaman, leader of his People, sees strange eyes gazing at him from his fire. He goes into trance and spirit-walks so he might discover what these eyes mean. The entire book is told from his point-of-view, begins with when he leaves his body and ends when he comes back. He is met by his nemesis, a witch-woman, whom he hates. She claims to know who is watching him and dares him to follow her. She leads him to another world (the Earth, centuries from now) where homosexuality has won out and is the sexual preference of most humans. But there are still many who do not conform. They're called the Backwards People. But it's a gentle Earth and they aren't punished, just shunned and discriminated against economically. By watching them, he learns that the Earth is on the verge of jumping to the Stars. They discovered the only method of traveling beyond the speed of light is the speed of thought. An Academy was founded in the Andes to train promising young psis in leading mankind to the Stars. The most powerful one they've discovered is a young man from Australia named Bobbyn. Unfortunately he has baggage. He is in love with a half-Aborigine surfer named Buzz, who is a renegade and would just as soon make love to a woman as a man, and has no use for authority of any kind. The head of the Academy, who is a powerful psi in his own right, has visited Buzz, trying to win him over, but discovers Buzz is not for sale to anyone for any price. So Buzz is murdered, and his soul is met as it leaves his body and is flung into the stars where it lands on this primitive world the shaman lives on and enters the body of an infant girl of his People. Bobbyn is distraught at Buzz's death and in his dreams is looking for him, but in his waking hours doesn't realize it. The shaman sees the future. He realizes that the wanting of Buzz will cause Bobbyn to lead humanity to the shaman's world, and if that happens, his world is doomed. His People will see the new-comers as gods, and see how gods love other gods and goddesses love other goddesses, and they will imitate them, and all his People hold dear will be destroyed. However, he can prevent all this if he discovers which infant houses Buzz.
