About the Book

Lunar Helium-3 mines, a space elevator, Martian microbes, iShields, theistic tech-savvy terrorists, and a love story. What more could you want? It's later on in the century, when the Antarctic and Greenland ice sheets are melting, the seas are rising, polar bears are only found in zoos, the only ski resorts are near the Arctic Circle, and the finest wines come from Scandinavia. The only remaining oil reserves of any significance lie in Africa under the control of North American Union troops. When renewable sources of energy failed to live up to their promise, the world turned to fusion reactors fed by Helium-3 mined on the moon. The infrastructure constructed to support this option includes a lunar mining base, a fleet of lunar transport ships, a 35,700 kilometer high space elevator, and a worldwide evacuated-tube train system that travels at speeds up to 3,000 kilometers per hour. Johan Taylor, known as Oxy by his friends, doesn't mind the extremely long days and equally long nights. He has a great job and works with people that respect him. Although, it isn't quite as exciting as the time he had ascended the face of Everest, it isn't exactly boring, either. And he takes satisfaction in knowing how to keep the lunar mines running that supply Helium-3 to the Earth's fusion reactors. However, he doesn't understand what drives the elusive terrorist group, the Sowers of God, to attack these very same reactors; or why a former co-worker, and friend, had left the lunar base to join the group. Oxy longs to rekindle a lost relationship with Adrianna, the only woman he had ever really loved, but now she's preparing to travel to Mars to investigate a discovery so significant, it hasn't even been completely revealed to the astronauts. But when Oxy finds something on the moon's surface that entirely defies explanation, it sets him on a course of self-discovery that will have him rethink his values, re-unite with someone from his past, and risk his life in the midst of a cataclysm to rescue those that mean the most to him. His greatest concern, though, is whether he will ever see Adrianna again.
About the Author: Glenn K. Graham has an MS degree in chemical engineering and worked for many years as a Project Scientist and Process Research Leader in R&D for Union Carbide Corporation and The Dow Chemical Company. He lives with his amazing wife and 3 animal-shelter-expatriate dogs in the beautiful forested hills of West Virginia. The Sowers of God trilogy is his first novel, and fulfills his desire to write a compelling story about a possible future world, with its advanced technology and potential problems. The author will be presenting some of the concepts that form the core of the novel at the 2012 Space Elevator Conference in Seattle, WA. The title of the presentation will be, "Space Elevator Justification and Role in Transportation Infrastructure Incentivized by Lunar Helium-3 Mining Operation."
