Dear old Southfields, such a trendy and stylish village, home to ambitious and energetic people of all ages. This is the area where people organise Window Dressing Shows, acting just like a family which seeks to be inclusive and friendly, an area where people join in groups to plant flowers and trees, and to keep their gardens fresh, where neighbours ensure all are safe, and share their healthy ideas to maintain and develop the district. It is also the district with the annual excitement of The AELTC, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

My memories of Southfields, right from the 1950s, have always been imbued with deep affection, an area with a hearty community, with all you could possibly need on a day-to-day basis, and so well connected to nearby towns and the city.

I was born in Wimbledon Park Road, not far from the exciting Wimbledon Park, where my siblings and I spent many a happy afternoon. Did you know that Capability Brown designed those beautiful grounds, the golf course, the fish-filled lake, and all the scenic grounds? I still feel a deep connection with dear old Southfields, accentuated because I taught at Sheringdale, the local school, as a newly qualified infant teacher in 1970.

Who could ask more of such a stylish home village?
