En Miquel i l'Anna es retrobaran a París després de cinquanta anys d'haver-ne marxat i de no haver-se vist més des de llavors. I ho faran seguint un pla dissenyat per en Miquel, que no es desvela fins al final de la novel-la i que unirà, definitivament, les seves vides i el seu destí, demostrant que l'amor, sempre present al llarg de la narració, és un discurs i, com tot discurs, suposa unes ordenacions i unes posicions que sempre estan en constant entredit i que sovint són entorpides per circumstàncies imprevistes, habitualment no volgudes ni esperades.

Mentre això no passa, els dos, amb l'ajuda d'altres protagonistes secundaris, blandaran records que els faran oscil-lar contínuament entre el passat i el present, desgranant el que fou la seva vida de jovenívola alegria i de clandestina militància política, durant el període indefinit que abraça els finals dels anys 60 i principis dels 70 del segle passat, fins el que han acabat sent en l'actualitat, un cop van oblidar-se dels vells ideals i es van convertir en persones benestants, a l'abric d'on els van portar les incontrolables circumstàncies de la vida

La novel-la està escrita a través d'una arquitectura en la què sorgeixen una gran varietat de veus narratives i de tipologies de discurs, que edifiquen un relat binocular que es mou entre el present i el passat, i que materialitza un recorregut sentimental i emotiu que configura el retrat d'una generació marcada per les batalles perdudes dels vells ideals incomplets. I tot plegat, amb el teló de fons dels paisatges de les ciutats de París i Barcelona, tant les d'abans com les d'ara, amb llocs, persones i fets insòlits o poc coneguts, que no només són un paisatge, sinó que esdevenen les autèntiques protagonistes de la història de la seva vida.

L'obra, construïda en quatre capítols -"Nosaltres", "Els altres", "Tal com érem", "Tal com som" i un Epíleg final titulat "Renaixem"-, malgrat que s'articula sobre una sèrie de giragonses i salts en el temps i l'espai, controla el ritme narratiu i estructura un marc general equilibrat. I, malgrat el relat de fets tant punyets com les manifestacions, les detencions i les tortures a la Jefatura Superior de Policía de Via Laietana a l'època franquista, de l'exili republicà, dels fets de Radio Liberty, o de les restes del maig del 68 al quartier latin, la novel-la no mitifica cap passat ni s'atura en cap clixé, la qual cosa fa que la història flueixi fàcilment com la Seine, tan present en la vida dels protagonistes.

En definitiva, és una novel-la generacional, però alhora també romàntica. Una novel-la d'amor i de lluita. Una crònica d'aquella generació lluitadora i políticament compromesa dels finals del franquisme, en la qual es configura una mena de joc de miralls a cavall d'aquells anys -viscuts pels protagonistes entre Barcelona i París- i l'actualitat, on preval, en ells, el desencís i la manca de compromís amb aquells ideals de quan tenien ideals. I, tot emmarcat dins d'una història d'amor interrompuda i mal viscuda, que, finalment, resultarà ser tan intemporal que aconseguirà reeixir, perquè, com diu el protagonista, a la vida de les persones sempre hi ha un moment de plenitud en la qual tot es conjumina a favor de la realització dels somnis. És un moment de clímax que cal saber aprofitar.
