About the Book

After years of philandering - and then the tragic death of his entire family, world-renowned architect and real estate developer Marshall Stein hides on the river in one of his award-winning creations. Until one phone call changes his world. With the news of a missing grandchild, one that Marshall didn't know existed, he hires private detective Thomas Sinclair. Refueled with the search of a lifetime, Marshall reluctantly revisits his past as he searches for leads to the child. As he deals with love, loss and guilt in their rawest forms, his memories take him from Calgary to Paris and from Afghanistan to The Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. When former business partner Tony Morretti convinces Marshall to come out of early retirement to salvage his floundering enterprise after an environmental crime, Marshall's world is altered again. As the river below his doorstep bursts with new colors of the seasons, dark family secrets are uncovered, mental illness is unveiled and nightly chants fill the river's air with song of mercy and pleas for redemption. As four strangers converge to find the truth - Marshall discovers that nothing was as it appeared.
About the Author: I am a mother, daughter, sister, friend, adequate (exploratory) gourmet chef, drastically poor baker, desiring to improve gardener. In the fall of 2014 my great gardener of a father passed away. That very summer I grew over 1,000 cherry tomatoes on two tomato plants (my first major win in the dirt!). "I finally taught you!" my dad bragged from his hospital bed, with a great smile on his handsome face as he tried to hide his pain. I will never forget that moment. I was consumed with such pride of him, as well as immense sadness that the strongest and most honorable man that I knew was suffering, and that I was losing him . . . I am the product of two wonderful parents, a volunteer, sometimes activist, nature lover, bubble-bath advocate and business woman. I adore every breed of dawg and abhor laziness and boardroom bullies. I am also compelled and forever motivated to complete what I started... The "product" of a family of entrepreneurs and artists (ranging from journalists and authors to theatre producers and musicians (novelists, hobbyists and professionals)), including my dear Jayda, my daughter that I am so very proud of . . . It must be with this genetic make-up deep in my blood that I feel peaceful and free and exhilarated (and yes, sometimes frustrated) when I write. I began writing when I was five years old... Fast forward a few years (okay fast forward decades) and in 2006 I finally finished the first draft of a handful of manuscripts that I had started over the years. Voila, seven years later I self-published in 2013. "Something Beautiful Happened" called to me. It helped me appreciate or discard everything good, bad and ugly. The storyline is a potpourri of real experiences and characters that I needed to explore further - and through the writing and edits it became a combination of more fiction than fact as I attempted to weave an intimate journey of the trials, tribulations, accomplishments, setbacks and challenges that life sometimes is. Then, as I moved towards the end (no! - I had not decided on the ending) I realized that most of us can find resolve and that our journeys surprise us sometimes - regardless of what juncture we are at. So, as I wrote to the end I changed things up dramatically, and draft one became draft two and draft ten became draft eleven. With this, I gradually felt more accepting and more a woman mature. Pamela currently resides in Calgary, Alberta.
