Somewhere in outer space
About the Author: Born in Newark, New Jersey Racquel Cruz has been sharing her passion of art, music and poetry since a young age. Thankful, her gifts were given to her by her parents and grandmother. She discovered the joy she received from poetry, mostly from the works of Shel Silverstein. He wrote poetry in such a way it gave her a seed of hope while going through dark times as a child. Not only did Shel's writing help maintain her childhood innocence, it was different. It taught her to believe her way of thinking was okay. More than oftentimes it was her escape from things and often made her happy. Racquel is a big believer in reaching out to abused children and ones in the foster/adoptive system. She believes it is what life is all about. "If you really take a look around you, everything seems so normal, but it's not. You see TV channels with happy child actors and the children that watch and want to be them. You see toys in commercials and know that all the fortunate kids in the world get a chance to see them that have a TV and parents that can buy them. The children that we don't see are the ones that cry, huddled in a dark corner or under a bed, wondering when everything is going to stop or wondering when they are going to get their next meal for their hungry tummies. The ones that wish for nothing but a pair of shoes for Christmas (true story). As a society some people have given up on the young children in the streets not knowing that some of them are trying to avoid their home because they don't want to go a place where big people that are supposed to love them have heavy hands. They stand in the streets tough and guarded when all they really needed from the start was good direction, hugs and hope, often mislead by the streets promising to fill their hurt and void" Racquel Cruz also has a very strong passion for the visual arts and is currently the Founder of Artist's Square: www.Artists-Square.com. She feels art is a deep form of expression into the mind and heart of the creator. The details represent their flow, imagination and originality. It is very similar to the art of poetry and why she constantly engages herself. Racquel shares her poetry with the world in a public site: Rockadocious.blogspot.com. Rockadocious is a nickname that she finds very amusing, given to her by one of her many siblings. She keeps the nickname as it is a constant reminder that this is truly how her mind works: silly, quirky, funny and serious when she needs to be.
