Vera Walker has never quite fit in with the rest of her small Vermont town. Her adoptive parents and two younger brothers always show how much they love her, and her best friend, Atticus Wells, keeps telling her how special she is. Still, there seems to be something missing in her life.
That missing part of herself comes rushing back on the day of her sixteenth birthday. Suddenly, Vera can hear the thoughts of everyone around her. The power is immense and frightening, but Vera searches for ways to control it and use it to help people.
As Atticus helps her focus her thoughts and hone her abilities, the two teenagers grow closer. Vera has always thought of Atticus as simply a close friend, but she begins to realize that she hasn't truly been listening to him. Maybe he wants to become something more.
As Vera lets her walls down, she is flooded with the thoughts and emotions of so many others, but now she is not alone anymore. Follow her on the adventure ahead as she finds the friendship, romance, and mystery waiting for her.
