About the Book

This volume traces five generations of descendants of Joseph Yates (1805-1863), providing short biographical sketches of many of his progeny. The ten pages of full-name index list numerous surnames-Edmondson, Holloway, Holwell, Milton, Shelley, Stanaland, and Swain, to name only a few. Born in Montgomery County, Georgia, Joseph lived his life there, dying in Brooks County; however, his descendants can be found throughout the U.S. He was married twice, first to Malina Swain and five years later to Cyntha Bowie, having children from both marriages.
About the Author: Although a technical writer for nearly twenty years at a DoD facility in China Lake, California, Anne Price Yates began life as an artist. She studied at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh in the Tam-O-Shanter and Palette classes from fifth grade until her high school freshman year when her family moved to Florida. She was painting with oil, acrylic, and casein paints by the time she was 13, and then majored in art at Florida State University. She stopped painting during her married years, and in 1974 began to seriously research her family history. This was before the Internet. She and her father, W. Conway Price, collaborated to produce Increase in Prices, in 1985. Then in 1998 she published The Brothers Conway, the autobiographies of her two great-grandfathers. She has since published several of her late father's genealogical compilations and some of her own. In 2000 and 2001, she painted in France with an oil-painting plein-air group and has continued to paint. After retiring from her writer/editor position in 2004, she moved to Oregon, where she added watercolor to her choice of mediums and was juried into the Watercolor Society of Oregon. While in California she was a member of the California Writers Club and became a member of the National League of American Pen Women in both Arts and Letters. Her artwork was featured in the June 2005 issue of The Pen Woman, with her painting of Cadonet Street Scene on the cover. She has exhibited in numerous juried exhibits and galleries in New York, Florida, and California as well as in Oregon.
