Una historia de ficcion de Colombia en la primera mitad del siglo 20, contada, en primera persona, por el protagonista. Este es un personaje discapacitado que solo ve por uno de sus ojos. Recorre medio pais a pie desde las agrestes montanas de Santander hasta Bogota. En sus periplo encuentra toda clase de personas que reflejan un pais atrasado, violento, politiquero y corrupto. Como musico empirico hace llevadera su aventura, parando en las diferentes poblaciones, financiandose con lo poco que consigue con su arte musical. En Bogota llega donde un pariente cercano que le busca una beca en el instituto de ciegos, no obstante poseer una vista reducida por uno de sus ojos. En ese instituto tiene que conjurar algunas peripecias juveniles en las que se ve envuelto. Los politiqueros de la capital traman actos y hechos de corrupcion que conducen al cierre del establecimiento educativo. Sale desorientado a buscar trabajo musical y encuentra en uno de los sitios ludicos de Bogota. El licor y las transnochadas atacan su salud. Permanece en un hospital de caridad donde se recupera. Unas tias que viven en zonas rurales cercanas a la capital lo invitan a que las visite. Alli se enamora de una muchacha destinada a ser monja. Se la lleva de su casa para contraer matrimonio. Se casan a escondidas. Los padres de la mujer los persiguen hasta encontrarlos y van decididos a que su hija se convierta en monja. La internan en un convento y se fuga para buscar a Jose Dolores, el protagonista. Se alejan de sus parientes en busca de mejor futuro. Y en esa Colombia lejana tienen sus hijos, pero Jose Dolores se queda finalmente ciego. En su desespero trata de suicidarse, cambia su violin por un revolver y un lamentable accidente cambia el rumbo de su historia. Una bala perdida que se produjo al momento del accidente por poco acaba con la vida del gobernador de esa provincia y cae en las mazmorras de una espantosa carcel. Los sucesos del bogotazo, con la muerte del caudillo Jorge Eliecer Gaitan producen una inesperada fuga colectiva, salvadora de dicho panoptico, esquivando asi una injusta condena. Es una historia cargada de humor, sencilla, en un lenguaje coloquial sin aspavientos, es decir, en el lenguaje que utiliza el pueblo. La ironia de las frases hace que la novela vaya formando una trama inquietante, satirica y de suspenso.
About the Author: Es Jaime Moreno un abogado, un escritor y un politico. Ejercio por varias decadas la profesion de litigante y desde 1969 nos tiene acostumbrados a sus relatos (cuento, novela, teatro) en los que refleja la vida de su pais. Durante estos 40 anos ha producido 4 novelas: "Tras la baranda", sobre corrupcion en la justica y en las carceles de Colombia. Esta novela fue finalista en el Concurso Nacional de Novela del Ministerio de Cultura en 1994. Fue publicada en EE.UU con el titulo de "La balanza inclinada", en espanol. "Memorias de la hija del boticario", electrizante historia de una mujer arribista y trepadora que practica en su vida "el enriquecimiento facil", talante que sera su perdicion. "Alguien anda detras del presidente", la mejor novela acerca de los sindicatos en Colombia, sus luchas, sus practicas corruptas y sus sacrificios. Ademas, como cuentista tiene en su haber dos libros de cuentos: "Recogiendo los pasos" y "justicia divina". Por otra parte un monologo teatral titulado "Al final de la gira", un drama protagonizado por una prostituta que se asocia con un politico de su region para realizar una campana electoral con la participacion de las demas companeras, para conseguir los ovolos electorales con el ejercicio sexual de las hetairas de esa casa de meretrices. Jaime Moreno fue elegido magistrado del Consejo de Estado en el 2005 y hasta el 2009 ejercio como juez de alta corte. Hoy se dedica unicamente a contarnos sus hilarantes historias. Ha practicado la actividad radial y esporadicamente hace sus pinitos musicales.
