About the Book

The Soma People is the story of a Westerner's adventure in mystic India. Paul has come to India in search of the supplier of a herbal medicine called Soma. His search brings him to a group of spiritual adepts. Their powers mesmerize him and their teachings inspire him. He begins his own inner journey. At the same time an Indian woman activist gets involved with the spiritual group and spins it out of control. Paul gets sucked into the events that follow which have a lasting impact on him and all the other characters of the story. The teachings imparted by the spiritual masters are all time-tested and the powers they display are all real. There are many esoteric yogic practices that the world knows little of. In this story these are shared. The author has shown that they do exist and further that they can be explained. She has started from known concepts of physics and psychology and extended them into other realms. Those who want to learn about Indian mystic practices and spiritual truths will find this book very valuable. Those who come with a skeptic's mind will see how it is possible to walk on the path of transformation to the end and not lose it half way. Those who rely primarily on reason will see how it is taken to its farthest point and then led on further. Those who are already open to a higher consciousness will find it a valuable guide book for the miracles they will encounter in their spiritual journey. Those who want to read it as a story will enjoy the cast of characters and their interactions.
About the Author: Lopa Mukherjee is a spiritual practitioner and author. In her writings she focuses on Indian culture and spirituality. In this book she has created a story where the main characters are spiritual masters who have developed powers to defy nature. All these powers, called siddhis, are received when a person's consciousness expands. The author has not imagined these powers. They exist and there are adepts who have demonstrated them. Since a lot of the practices are esoteric they are not often shared with the non-initiated. However in this book Lopa Mukherjee has shown how they work; starting from first principles - physical science and reason - leading the reader on to the higher ranges of mental capacities. A reader with an open mind can transition into the realms which are unknown now, but not unknowable. This book is an invitation to embark on a personal journey into the inner worlds. Lopa Mukherjee focuses on Indian culture in her writings. She has authored two other books. One is a historical fiction - Three Rivers of Tears - that traces the birth of the Indian subcontinent. The other is a collection of short stories - East West Crossroads - which explores the influence of the West on Indian society and culture.
