About the Author: Dr. Davis attended Wheaton College and Wheaton Graduate School, and graduated summa cum laude in his B.A. (1988) and M.A. (1989) degrees, in Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology respectively. He earned his Ph.D. in Religion from the University of Iowa School of Religion (2000). Having served churches as both an associate and senior pastor, Don has served as Director of World Impact Wichita, as well as its Vice-President of Education, overseeing World Impact's four Christian schools in Los Angeles, Watts, Philadelphia, and Newark in the late eighties and early nineties. In addition to his current duties as the director of TUMI and as professor in its Hope School of Ministry, Dr. Davis also serves as World Impact's national Vice-President of Leadership Development, and oversees the training of urban missionaries, church planters, and city pastors, and facilitates training opportunities for urban Christian workers in evangelism, church growth, and pioneer missions. He leads the Institute's extensive distance learning programs, which includes giving support to 69 TUMI satellites, representing a variety of churches and ministries including satellites in correctional facilities and prisons, rescue missions, a midwestern seminary, and ministries to Native Americans. TUMI's leadership development programs are also international in scope, with satellites in Guatemala, Mexico, Pakistan, Bolivia, Canada, and Ghana. A recipient of numerous teaching and academic awards, Don has served as professor and faculty at a number of fine academic institutions, having taught courses in religion, theology, philosophy, and biblical studies at Wheaton College, St. Ambrose University, the Houston Graduate School of Theology, and the University of Iowa School of Religion. Dr. Davis has written numerous courses, articles, and curricula, and has participated in many academic and theological consortiums such as the Staley Lecture series, Promise Keepers rallies, and the University of Virginia Lived Theology Project Series. He is also a member of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature. In his current role, Don has authored a number of comprehensive texts, curricula, and study materials to equip urban leaders to fulfill their ministries on behalf of the underserved in the urban church. Don and his wife Elizabeth were married in February 1975. Their oldest son, Matthew David, was 26 years old when he went home to be with the Lord in August of 2003. They have two grown children, born in 1980 and 1984 respectively. Dr. Joanna Davis-McElligat graduated in 2010 with a Ph.D. in English from the University of Iowa, and is an assistant professor of Ethnic Studies at University of Louisiana, and Daniel (born in 1984), is a doctoral fellow in the English program working towards his Ph.D. in English, also at the University of Iowa.
