Tu contro tutti: su quella collinetta c'è il lanciatore pronto a sfidarti; intorno a lui, i suoi compagni di squadra pronti a eliminarti se non ci riesce quel lanciatore.Giovanni Tommasini l'ha vissuto sulla sua pelle, ha provato cosa significa scivolare su quella terra rossa per arrivare in base prima che i difensori avversari riescano ad eliminarti.Una mail, una telefonata e ho conosciuto Giovanni. Dopo aver scambiato due parole ho subito capito quanto il baseball sia ancora nella sua vita. Quando poi ho letto Tomato, il suo primo racconto, mi sono reso conto quanto sia speciale questo autore ligure. Tutto il bello, tutta la magia di questo sport si ritrovano nei suoi scritti, prendendo spunto dalla nascita della prima squadra di baseball nella città di Sanremo fino alla favolosa storia di Alex Liddi. Il primo vero professionista da Major League italiano. Di Sanremo.Quelli di Tommasini non sono semplici racconti. Con le sue citazioni di grandi scrittori, di grandi compositori e di grandi poeti, riesce a fare del baseball un insegnamento di vita. Il baseball non solo come sport di squadra ma come vera e propria palestra di vita. In ogni suo ruolo, dal lanciatore al ricevitore, dall'interbase all'esterno, questo sport ha qualcosa da dare.Scrive Tommasini parlando del lanciatore in Nove Le Punte Di Diamante: "La traiettoria richiesta dal ricevitore, una possibilità di attracco per il battitore; l'incontro della mazza con la pallina lanciata, lo sbarco sognato sul nuovo mondo.Eroi. Mai nessuno in Italia aveva scritto di baseball nel modo in cui lo ha fatto lui. Dai primi racconti a quelli che Giovanni ha iniziato a scrivere in seguito, qualcosa è nato anche dallo scambio delle nostre idee, come lo splendido racconto della vita di Agostino Liddi. L'origine di Alex Liddi.Poi tutto è successo in poco tempo, perché i racconti di Tommasini volano veloci, come una dritta oltre le 90 miglia di un pitcher di Major League. Fino ad arrivare a questo libro che raccoglie, con un filo conduttore unico, tutti i racconti di questo grande scrittore ligure. Il primo grande scrittore di baseball in Italia.Chi ha giocato a baseball è una persona speciale.Quando avrete finito di leggere questo libro avrete capito anche il perché.
