About the Book

Sarah explains how she helped Sam learn how to read body language and improve his own body language to become more confident in himself. Sam and others with autism struggle with reading body language and non-verbal communication and this creates some problems because communication is 93% non-verbal and only 7% verbal. Sarah and Sam work hard to improve his social skills and Sarah helps others too. Sarah takes Sam and others to places where they can practice their social skills in the right social context. Insurance companies limit what therapists can do to help people with autism and Sarah knows the importance of teaching a social skill in the appropriate social context. She takes Sam and others to the mall, to the library, to the grocery store, and out to the dance clubs so that they can work on a social skill that they have been learning in all kinds of different social context situations. Sarah explains how it is important to use a social skills differently depending on the social context of the situation you are in. Talking to a stranger int he library does not have the same social context as talking to a stranger in the dance club. People without autism are able to adapt to different social context issues without any problems but when you throw autism into someone's life that makes it very difficult for them to adapt socially to different contextual situations. Sarah will teach you how to teach people with autism about social thinking and social context. She provides many tips for helping people with autism adapt to different social situations in different contexts. This book is full of tips and information that is crucial in understanding how to teach someone with autism social context and social thinking skills. This is a very informative and educational book on how to teach social thinking and social context to people with autism. Here is an excerpt from the book. "You approach people in many different ways. Each way has a different social context that you need to be aware of. Context is so important and it is one of those unlearned social skills that people with autism do not just naturally pick up on. I have worked with Sam for a number of years trying to explain social context with him. While he is starting to get it a lot better than he had it before we still have a long ways to go before he is an expert in understanding social thinking or social context."
