About the Book

The term society is generally used for a group of human beings living together and they have some similarity in their living pattern. The society is also called an integration of human relations. The human society becomes more civilized through long process of socialization. The education plays an important role in socialization of human being. It makes people knowledgeable, knowledge makes people aware and awareness makes a person more logical, rational and thoughful, which plays an important role in the process of development of nation. Our Education is nearly 5000 years old, as old as our culture. The ancient Indian literature shows the enrichment of Arts, Sciences, Philosophy, Religion and Socio-Political thoughts. Initially education was the matter of communication limited to the upper classes but the modern education has a fundametally different orientation and organization. Its content is liberal and exoteric, and it is stteped in modern scientific world-view. Freedom, equality, and denial of faith in dogmas are the themes, which a modern education has contained. The present education system is based on the National Policy on education which was formulated by the Government of India in 1986 to achieve the goal of Universal Primary Education for all children up to 14 years of age and nearly 24 years after the policy formulation the government of India at last implemented a historic law to provide free and compulsory education to all children in the age group of 6-14 years. It is worth noting that the 86th constitutional amendment, making education a fundamental right, was passed by the Parliament in 2002. The right of children to free and compulsory education Act, a law to enable the implementation of the fundamental rights was passed by Parliament in 2010, which came in to force from 1 April 2010. The National Education Policy further enjoins upon the entire nation to pledge itself to the eradication of the illiteracy particularly the age of 10 to 35 age group. The education and literacy make the social problems (like high fertility rates, lack of health care, ignorance and poverty, corruption etc.) more manageable, which leads to the social change as well as positive change in the society. We hope that the discussion on different fields of education in this book will be helpful towards betterment of the society.About the AuthorDr. D. K.
