About the Book

Theme: A nearly 500-page (8.5 X 11 format)aide-memoir of life-chapter excerpts from most of my books defining a diverse lifestyle without forethought, and more akin to changing occupations, coincidences & experiences. Thus, an apt title and no regrets along the way.

Abstract: This compilation of select chapters from numerous published manuscripts that I wrote over many years denotes phases, divertissements, and milepost highlights, most of which relate to serving in the guise of a pedagogue, mentor, backpacking guide, and academic scholar with the likes of the Grand Canyon Field Institute, Northern Arizona University (Flagstaff), and Yavapai College (Prescott), all of which were centered on the Road Scholar Program, including two ecotourism enterprises that I owned and operated modeled after this outdoor educational program. Other manuscripts also contribute to relevant chapter material for this literary volume I am not putting out there for publication. For instance, prose and poetry predicated on a thesis of Nature and the Self; dietary preferences associated with environmental sustainability as opposed to non-sustainability; an educational travelogue of all the major scenic icons throughout the Southwest's National Parks, National Monuments, State and Tribal Parks, and Archeological ruins (notably, the Anasazi); homeless stray (res) dogs on the Navajo Reservation; a digest of the 19th-century explorer of the Green and Colorado rivers canyon country-Major John Wesley Powell; Antarctica's Emperor Penguins that also includes the science and worrisome woes of climate change; Glen Canyon's diminishing Lake Powell levels due to prolonged severe drought; a somewhat complicated romantic autobiography-turned-faux novel (to protect the not so innocent main characters, including the author's), an alluring portly cat that stalked the author who eventually moved into a haunted Victorian mansion in Georgetown, Colorado where we lived, and a similar mitigated novel about a life-changing plane crash (the author's) that essentially serves as a prequel to the ensuing romantic Georgetown drama. Additionally, there are a few other manuscript samples that round out other chapter themes and contributions, including one of the author's favorite topics: aeronautics and aerospace. Because his comprehensive curriculum vitae (read, the author's admitted mi vida loca) is mainly based on academics, changing professions, and employers, as well as paradigmatic circumstances that amount to somewhat convoluted and pivotal experiences, the overall narrative defines the summation of his life. Moreover, "A Nomadic Vagamundo's Aide-Memoire's" manuscript excerpts help qualify the intentional flippant subtitle of this lengthy volume. To quote a celebrated song title and maxim from The Beatles-it has indeed been a long and winding road he has traveled and enjoyed (and still relishes).
